Puppy Love

I like to watch people.
Catch the moment their eyes meet those of one familiar.
Witness the indescribable ease that spreads across their face when together--washing it free of concerns for the other.

The barely imperceptible glances—
affirming, guiding, quieting all.

And the love given in return,
from wide eyes that speak, “You are my world.”

A visit from Julie Zickefoose and Chet Baker

It's a world of difference between running into an "acquaintance" and a "true friend." The former is filled with words, and make no doubt, its always the friendliest experience ... but the later is where "silence" is comfortable, and yes, it is an extension of one's own self: the same world.

Hey--that dog looks familiar! I wonder if he's as energetic as my own Boston Terrier. Love, Jess

Interesting how your commenters seem to be more jealous of you meeting Chet Baker than you seeing Julie. Hmmmm-in a "who do you want to meet" contest, who would win out. . .Chet Baker or Julie Z?

So how did today go, Nina? Was he a good boy?
Didja get some squirrelees, Bacon?

Baker's a charming companion!
We walked trails, watched birds, then fell asleep in a heap on the lawn beneath 74 degree sunshine!
Then mether came back--and Baker was really, really happy!

Yes, this is a good thing.

Hiking with Chet Baker is the greatest, isn't it? Glad you guys had such a nice day for it.

Oh, I don't know - in a contest, I think my vote would go to Julie, but it would be a difficult decision. As far as I know Chet has more flatus issues than Zick.

Thanks again for the invite!

How beautiful. I have a special place in my heart for Boston Terriers. My youngest daughter has one in Tulsa, and Maggie is her soulmate.

Exhausted on the couch after my 18-hour day...and me without my Playtex girdle. I'm all bawly over this picture. Nina, you are an amazement. I treasure our time together. Thanks so much to you and the gallant and courtly Anton for taking such wonderful care of me.

Katdoc, I am going to spank you the next time I see you. As far as you know???

Pfft.

It occurs to me that the dreamily adoring look on Baker's face might originate in having his bits sponged with warm water...

Great photo, Nina - You caught the look of absolute devotion we can only see in our pets' eyes.

I see that look in my Xena's eyes and it is truly love.

Ah, I miss my beloved boxer Star and she's been gone already for 11 years! Hard to believe. Maybe one day I'll get another. Enjoy yours.

Our dogs give us far more than we give them, especially the old ones. If you ever take on a homeless senior, you'll be amazed at the love and devotion!

So true--there is nothing like the unconditional love you get from a dog. You've captured it in his eyes so well.

They realy do have a lot of 'human' qualities

Puppies give us unconditional love, something we cannot always say of humans.

Just look at those eyes.
Now that is love!

This reminds me of the meeting between my oldest son, then nine years old, and the puppy under the Christmas tree. He stepped right over and through all the other gifts and the two greeted each other with just such a look of joy and commitment.

Oh my goodness, that picture made me tear up a bit. Little Chet, all in love with Mether - does it GET any better than that? Oh, and I love how you got the little Boston lapel pin on her jacket in the shot, too.
Sweet, sweet, sweet. Thank you for sharing.

That's a great picture! You can really see Chet's adoration for his "Mether" (and Mether's adoration too!)
