That is fascinating! Must be a borer of some sort, but it looks like duplicate Native American carvings. What a good eye you have!
Wow! This is so interesting! Makes me want to go out and look for something like this!!!
Great Post Nina!!
That's just one of the reasons we like your blog so much. You stop and find miraculous things the rest of us would overlook. Great post.
I hate to think you have pine borers. They killed 4 out of 6 pines we had in our garden. The last two pines blew down this winter.
You do have a great eye for the usually overlooked treasures.
Natures Art is amazing! Great find!
I do like the quote. What an interesting design.
Nature IS art, and ALL creatures are capable of creating wonderful work - as these shots show.
Well spotted!

Actually, I think it is wee tree elves working on their wood carving or wood burning art. Luck you to have found it! Perhaps you can sell it on eBay! :)
It's beautiful isn't it!
Hi Nina
This is art at it's very finest.. what can be more beautiful than art from natures own hand.. I would have been over the moon with this find.. in must be like going in a long forgotten attic room and coming across an 'old Master.. :O)
The thing I absolutely love most about your blog is how you find beauty in the wee, the tiny, the simple, the easily-overlooked.
How many people walked by that spot yet did not see it? You really look, and that makes all the difference.

Hi Nina,
I really like the sense of curiosity and humility that your bring to the world. That pattern is magical. I think a fairy wrote it.
This is so beautiful - great find :)
