D-licious

Late summer means Blackberry Cobbler.
Picked from the fields surrounding our home, these wild berries and the favorite dessert made from them are well worth the scratches, poison ivy and chiggers that remain--long after the cobbler is gone.

Blackberry Cobbler

9 cups fresh wild blackberries
2 tablespoons lemon zest
1 to 1 1/2 cup sugar
3 tablespoons flour

2 1/3 cups Bisquick baking mix
3 tablespoons sugar
3 tablespoons melted butter
3/4 cup milk

Mix first four ingredients and cook on stovetop until bubbly. Pour into 13x9 pan.
Mix next four ingredients. Drop by large spoonful onto blackberry mixture.
Bake @ 400 degrees for half an hour.
Serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.

Mmmm, looks scrumptious! The blackberries were just coming on at the coast when we were there ... but we didn't have the time to pick them besides having no room left in the freezer after 30 lbs of blueberries.

How great is that. I was just out picking blackberries myself for a Fruit Pizza I'm taking to a gathering later on. This does look D-licious...

I used to get blackberry cobbler with vanilla ice cream all the time at The Black-Eyed Pea restaurants down in Texas. Such good comfort food.

Oh...my mouth is watering...

I bught some beautiful, huge blackberries at the grocery store last week and they were disappointing- flavorless. I did however see blackberries at a roadside truck market this afternoon...

Very delicious. If you go to my posting look just below and get the recipe for Verona's Peach Cobbler. They sound very similar.

That's exactly the same recipe I use for blackberry cobbler. My neighbor gave it to me years ago. It's easy and tastes great every time.

Ohhh, blackberries...
....cobbler...mmmmmmm. That sounds just fantastic. But I'm a cheap ho for a good dessert, this is a well-known fact.

And yet, while I would gladly brave the slings and arrows of thorns and chiggers and ticks...the poison ivy? That's just a step too far.
