My Ordinary Life

It’s going around again, like the flu—only better.
The Six Random Facts meme.
And, though I’m not a good player when it comes to awards, (heaven knows I have a virtual mantel where I hoard them, under layers of cyberdust, acknowledged but forgotten to pass),  I usually jump in on Random Facts.
As a blogger who leaves much of my ordinary life untouched, it’s a chance to be purposefully off-topic.

Wandering Weeta
has tossed this round in my lap, so, off we go:

1. I’m a snacker.
Even as mealtimes go, I much prefer a collection of small side dishes, to a main, “meat & potatoes” event. Crackers, salads, hummus, nuts, chips and salsa—it’s all good. And somewhat resembles bird food.

Oh--and there’s usually a granola bar in my jacket pocket. You never know where that pesky tummy rumble will find you!

2. I’m culturally a northerner.
Though I live in southern Ohio, rich in southern culture and bordered by Appalachian influence, my northern roots go deep. Even after years away, the imprint is strong, the fit natural. I wonder sometimes if regional differences shape us, or if we choose geographically different areas according to what feels right.
What do you think?

3. My love affair with shoes has become “serious.”
I’m far beyond the stylish, to the performance models. Shoes that grip…and hug…and usually cost a pretty penny.
And never look quite right with dress pants—but that’s okay. They look perfect from where I’m standing…

4. I grind my teeth—
and solve the world’s problems in my sleep. A contrast to my waking world, where there seems to be a serenity others observe, my nighttimes must be more intense. Or so my dentist tells me. Time to add a mouthguard to the age-reversing, Kabuki bedtime routine--and ward off dream demons.

5. I have a collection of buttons—
in those little, tiny zip-loc bags that come attached to your shirts and pants. I’m not sure what to do with them, but it definitely looks like someone has gone to great effort to make certain I have them. Have you ever used one?

6. I have my mother’s eyes—
that crinkle closed when I laugh. And cry too easily.

Look me in the eye.
Let me see you.

The rules for Six Random Facts are pretty straightforward:
1. Link to the person who tagged you.
2. Post the rules on your blog.
3. Write six random things about yourself.
4. Tag six people at the end of your post and link to them.
5. Let each person know they've been tagged and leave a comment on their blog.
6. Let the tagger know when your entry is up.

And so, I'll toss this meme to six others. If time or circumstance doesn't allow your following, that's okay. But, if there's a bit of you you'd like to share, please do.

1. Carolyn at Mountain Musings
2. Kathi at Katdoc's World
3. Trixie at Trixie's View
4. Tim at From the Faraway, Nearby
5. Christine at Quiet Paths
6. Deborah at the Cloud Messenger

Shoes! I'm always trying to find the perfect pair of walking shoes ... especially as I have a bunion on the right foot. Definitely difficult and I have quite the collection built up ... most of which end up not working ... even though I've walked up and down the store several times over! And the cost ... Sigh!

Ah yes, the buttons. No, I have never USED one ... at least not on the clothing they came with. Rather they get dumped in my button jar for some future sewing/craft project. Some people collect buttons ... you could always recycle them through your local quilt shop ... they usually have a container dedicated to new and used buttons ... a container that can be searched through as one looks for just the right one for one's project. Something to be said for running one's hands through a bin of buttons and letting them dribble through one's fingers!

I like this meme, too. It's interesting to see not only what the facts are but what bloggers choose to reveal about themselves.

I have your button collection beat--I bet. I have a jar.
Come to think of it--a blog topic is forming! (Rather like a cloud on the horizon that gives rise to a summer storm.)

I love reading this meme when someone I read does it. I think of it as a bad case of the flu though. I can never think of anything to say about myself.

Your descriptions are so engaging! I love the Kabuki-themed bed time.

And your eyes are lovely.

Now, I will have to think....

Nina- Night guards rock. I've done the teeth grinding thing since I was a tiny kid, but now I wear a mouth guard. Fortunately, I get them free from my father-in-law dentist who makes them for me. Sure, getting impressions taken of your teeth is no fun, but knowing that I'm not inadvertently destroying my teeth every night allows me to rest easily!

Oh dear, you did 'shoes' now I'll have to dig deep. I seldom post these memes but this one sounds fun. Thank you for including me!

Cool! You said what I was trying to get across earlier this morning, starting with, "I like memes."

I have used those buttons, but I think never with the item they came with. I even buy old buttons at craft fairs and flea markets. When I have a jar full, I make a dancing doll for one of the grandkids, or weave them into a throw rug.

And, of course, there's always the pleasure of sorting them, and, as Cicero says, running them through my fingers.
