On Thin Ice (SWF)

Wintry Sky over Little Pond Pool

This season is nothing, if not one of change.
Water levels in the pools quickly rise with each approaching shower, and shrink back as the fresh water finds its way to the thirsty corners of the field.
A freezing night is blown in, on the heels of a balmy afternoon.
And the sheer layer of ice left spanning these hollow pockets, records it all, like a line of ink scribbled on paper.

You've posted some gorgeous photos today. I'm glad we can click on them to see a larger photo! It was fun. As always, your verse was lovely, inspiring!

KaHolly--I'm glad you take the time to go "deeper" into them. I'm trying to conserve my space on blogger--I get very nervous when I see I'm approaching 50% capacity! So, I post smaller images, sincerely hoping others will still look more closely, with a click.
This ice is remarkably detailed.

Your melting ice photos takes me back when I was a kid in Minnesota. I would watch the ice and snow melt, see the patterns and stare at the little "rivers" it made through the grass in our yard. So much of nature gets over-looked when we become adults in our hurried lives. Your photos are beautiful!

Your pictures and descriptions of them are beautiful. I can almost feel myself there. Love how I can enlarge your pictures. So much talent you have Miss Nina....

Enjoyed your ice photos! My favorite is the Iced Oak Leaves... so cool. It's always fun to click to enlarge your photos. It allows us to explore closer without getting our feet wet!

I like the captures of the ice and all, but there is just something about that very first photo that I love. I wish I was there to see it in person.

Your pond is full of milk-glass! We have a pitcher that looks just like that first water photo.

Nina, these shots are stunning! Nature's perfect poetry...most pristine forms of art...all for us to embrace, if only we take the time to do so!

SO! You too are an ice crystal photographer. I have thousands of shots of water freezing along a little local creek. I lose myself to it SO much that I often find myself sitting in freezing water without even realizing that I am cold. My other most favorite thing to photograph is water itself. I am intrigued by all aspects of it. These shots of yours are just stunning. I was so excited when I saw them here. Beautiful Nina!! I just LOVE your love of nature. I relate to it more strongly than I can express. :) Hugs, Robin

The 3rd photo to me...when enlarged...is like looking through a porthole under water into another world.

I'd love to have a real pond like that.

Very nice series of photos. Nature does make great art. My favorite is the last one. Such detail with the ice and leaves. I hope everyone remember to enlarge these to get the whole effect.
Have a great weekend. Smiles B

I'm glad to see you resisted the temptation to break the ice. The sound is one of the great pleasures of childhood. (You got lucky to get to the ice before they got to it first!)

I love to take pictures of iced-over bodies of water, and I love seeing other's photos of it, too. The detail in these is wonderful. I also love the landscape portrait at the top of the post.
