Signs

Along the trail, I find the evidence--
a statement of ownership,
laws placed upon a piece of land,
markers of and for those who go there.

A smile broadens each time.

With the reminder--
we own nothing beyond ourselves.

I'm taking a few days away from the blog--
be back soon!

Love these signs. Shows that nature is the one in control. Not us..Ha! Enjoy your days Nina.

Yes, you need to take time to rest. Just don't stay in one place long enough for vines to grow around you. ;) Cheers.

Yes, it does say it own. A national park with restricted access to the people whose property it supposedly it is, with entry fees and stop signs...the only thing belonging to us is our thoughts.

I'm glad these are happy, protecting signs.

These signs protect what we love most: nature. Hope your time off is wonderful.

You are so right. We own nothing. We only borrow it for a while, and should be mindful of the fact that we should return it as we found it.

Seems arrogant and short sighted on our part, to think we can control nature, or even matter to it...

I like the way those trees are disguising those signs. It feels like revenge!

Great post for the letter S. I guess signs are important and can help us, but sometimes I think that can be overkill.

What a great idea for our S Day! You might be interested in reading about how a chickadee family came to build their nest in one of my decorative birdhouses - right on the patio! :D

Enjoy your rest time! I've not been blogging much myself. A busy time of the year at the moment ... especially with the addition of Mingus.

Enjoy your time away from the keyboard, Nina. I'm feeling the same.

I love that last sign:) Enjoy your time away; it's good to take a break from the computer for awhile, especially this beautiful time of year.

We're only a short time away from nature reclaiming what we think of as 'ours', aren't we?

I feel sorry for the poor tree in that first shot though. Why do we think we can nail signs to living plants?

As your blog title reminds us, Nature Remains.
Enjoy your break.

I find signs to at times make interesting statements, and sometimes, nature sort of helps the statement, perhaps in a manner the human posters didn't quite imagine. I love those first two shots you posted where nature seems to have overgrown the signs. Great finds.

Go breathe.

Nature will be here (in spades) when you get back.

And, so will we.

Signs, that is a great ABC S! Didn't even think of that.

Nina, I lashed myself to the keyboard for a long, long day so I could rest for a couple of weeks. It is blogging spring fever, I think. Mare's got it, I have it, Timmo has it...

Great writing is all about synthesis, and your gathering these signs and putting them together for a single, beautifully presented message is your special genius.

Nature does remind us so eloquently, doesn't she? :) I really love the way you've put it, too - "We own nothing beyond ourselves." Beautiful.
