In Spring of 2008, I began the study of 2 vernal pools on my property as part of the Ohio Vernal Pool Partnership monitoring program.

Travel beyond the Midwest has taken me to some beautiful places. Usually off the beaten track, these places are WILD!

Each spring, as winter lessens its grip and days warm with the first fragrant breezes of a new season, we collect sap from our Sugar Maples and produce just enough syrup for ourselves for the coming year.
The progress of this year's backyard endeavor is illustrated here.
Summer 2008, the tiny jewel of the avian world, a Ruby-throated Hummingbird, nested just feet from my front door. Pictures of her nest and the changing lives within are collected in this journal.

That's how I like my snow; in pictures.
Love that shot of the woods, with the branches outlined with the snow.
It's beautiful - looks a lot like hibernation, to me! A couple of quick snows here so unlike each of the last two years when 90+ inches fell in a short span of time and stayed for months.
weather - I see a recurring theme. 3 out of the 1st 9 ABC posts, including mine.

I was happy to see the sun today after a week of murky, damp weather.
Winter weather can be frightful, but it also gives one rare photographic opportunities.

Lovely walk through the woods, Nina! The weather seems to be on so many minds these days--we have had the "slightest" of snow, too, and now it's raining. I'm hoping for a white Christmas, not an icy one.
