A dark morning catches Orion on the western horizon. And in the 30-degree morning chill, I am reminded of how soon it will be that we’re standing out beyond the grass, upon the pond. Skating--on a similarly cold night, the Hunter watching from above.
A stack of turtlenecks has replaced the t-shirts in my drawers.
And this colorful box turtle I found out walking in the August heat has disappeared beneath the covering of the woods.
Taking his turtleneck with him.

Personally if I could get by with it, I would wear turtle necks all year long, but they would get pretty warm in the summer. But they hide the old wrinkly neck I have. I guess that's why Kathryn Hepburn always wore them. Have a great day.
Love this turtle neck. I too have my collection of turtle necks at the ready. It has warmed up here a little too much for them right now.
all I can think of is "peek a boo!"
Wonderful photos! And they answer that age-old question...
"Who wears a turtleneck in summer?!"
Hurray for turtlenecks! Love 'em!
Oh, I haven't seen a turtle in ages! You did get a phenomenal photo of him. Imagine having your own built-in turtleneck.

Very creative post, and the photos are absolutely gorgeous! Great colors.
I don't really like turtleneck's, they make me feel as if I am choking! But I do like turtles and your photos are awesome.
Nina: Neat captures of those turtleknecks. I wonder if that was where you were heading. Pretty funny.
Now that's a real turtleneck.
I personally prefer mock turtlenecks, myself.
That is colorful turtle. Great shots. I personally don't like turtlenecks.
what a fitting name for the turtle, I like turtle necks but don't wear them cause i have long hair, and it always mats my hair.Altho my youngest son thinks i am getting way too old for long hair.
You captured the colors really well!! Love them.
The colours really pop, and sharp detail
such wonderful close ups! i always love the turtles...
Great pictures :) I like the "what is she doing, pointing that thing at me??"-expression.
That's a reminder of something we miss here in south Florida: I have no winter-specific clothes per say. It's funny about the turtle, I compare our seasons to the race between the Tortoise and the Hare: The Hare is the rainfall of the wet season and the Tortoise is evaporation of the dry season. With the start of November, we are not officially in "Tortoise" territory for the next 6 months. Box turtles are very photogenic, great post as usual.
I wear turtlenecks a lot, too. Of course, in Ohio we need them!
I have always liked box turtles and your photos here are fantastic. I don't see many critters as I live in the city. The park down the hill from me has taken over by Canadian geese. Sigh. My walks there aren't nearly as interesting as they once were.
I'm hoping for a trek down at the Wilderness Center at Wilmot while I'm off this week if weather permits. It's always an adventure.
Thanks for visiting me. It's always nice to meet a fellow Buckeye. I shall return.
This was a good year for box turtles, wasn't it, Nina? Your post reminds me of how much I shall miss them.
How did you get yours to stick its head out for a photo? Mine always want to close up on me when I try for a close-up. I suspect it is your incredible patience at work again.
See you tonight,
~Kathi
Great close up shots.
Orion always signals winter to me! Did you see Jupiter and Venus with the waxing crescent moon? It was lovely last night! The Eastern Box Turtle is a favorite garden visitor...
My son's favorite aninmal! Last time we saw a turtle around here it was a snapping turtle!
Great turtle(neck) pic!
Always nice to an original turtleneck.
Wonderful series of photos. Thanks for sharing!
And the turtle in his turtleneck moves slowly through the grass, reminding us to move slowly too, and savor life....
Turtles - I posted turtle shots today too!
I love the clarity in you photos! Great Shots!!!
Wow! Amazing shots! :)
I like his eye.
