A most topical post on the letter E. Here our elderberries are not far off from ripening :)

Wow and wow and delicious! I sometimes forget that one of the joys of gardening is harvesting, cooking and eating/drinking.

Right now, the juice is what I've gained form the pile of berries.
I'll probably freeze it as such, and revisit it in the fall, when standing over a boiling pot is more welcome.
I may make jelly or syrup or ?

I love the title (Portrait). You really follow the life of an elderberry! But where are you munching at the end?

I don't think elderberries grow in California. My mother, a former Kansan once promised to bake a friend an elderberry pie, but couldn't locate any in California. They look delicious.

Ahh--this explains the Monty Python quote on FB. You had me mystified.
But, now I get it.

I've been tempted to try some elderberry 'stuff' again. My parents made wine and jam. The berries are nearly ripe here. Nice photos!

I don't think I have ever had elderberries but these do look delicious and would make good jam.

Such beautiful photos and so nicely sequenced together. I have no idea of the taste of the elderberry, but I am sure it is delicious.

People have nearly forgotten about elderberries, but if I remember rightly, they're very high in vitamin C! I love the cordials you can now buy made with elderflowers, but elderberry jelly was lovely.

Every time I hear elderberries, I think of a line from an old blues song, "Drinkin Wine, Spodie-odie". Nice pictures.

I've never seen or eaten edleberries. They kind of look like pomegranate out of the shell. This was a great choice for today's theme.

Astonishing photos. Martha Stewart Magazine calling.

I have to think that that many elderberries would have some profound medicinal effect when ingested. I thought you were making a pie of them! and thought, wooo, that would be SOME PIE.
