Five forty-five, and barely lit--
already through the open porch door,
the sound of birds, eager for dawn, fills the air.
To the chill that still returns each night,
this brisk wake-up call races the sun--
outrunning it,
each time, to my window.
Then, as suddenly as it all began, it is finished.
And Day takes them away.

They are the sweetest little birds Nina! I only had the opportunity to see one this past winter at my feeder. I wish I'd see them again but I guess they go somewhere else. I was so happy to have seen that one. And get such a close up of it. That is the one on my blog side bar. I really enjoy your writing and photos. Thanks so much.
I love ur nature and poetry blog and I have added you to my own blogroll :) I regularly read your posts and they really bring a smile to my face :)) TFS!
Love your blog....can't imagine ever being up that early but then look what I miss....take care:-)
Those little birdies are feeding young in my window box right now. The house wrens have returned too. It is such an exciting time of year. There are still a few White Crowns around barely scratching out a song. They must be practicing for the real thing when they get to where they nest.
Hi Nina...Carolina wrens are my favorite bird...they are stay here year round...they never stop singing...almost like a ritual just for me...every morning and evening and through out the day...there they are...and they nest in anything and anywhere it seems.
Your captured that charmed fleeting moment so well! Love the little wren on the lamp, what a wonderful rustic image!
Oops - guess it's time to file my nails if I'm accidently posting as Anonymous!
Beautiful shots, I love the way the birds sing betore it is light enough for them to find food. As though they sang to forget about the hunger pangs they woke up with, fluting their hope into the early morninf air.
I have to say ..lately those Carolina Wrens are driving me crazy...non stop singing in the morning...then more in the afternoon..and evening...
Do they have a turn off switch? tee hee..

That's very very early. I'm a night owl these days ... but even those I don't hear hooting.
