The Night Before Skywatch

‘T was the night before Skywatch, and all through the land,
every blogger, preparing a photograph grand;

Their cameras were perched in empyreal places,

in hopes that sheer beauty would soon fill those spaces.

So, morning chores finished and laundry begun,

I marched ‘cross our field on the heels of the sun;

Scanning high, peeking low, in the world I did roam,

and with every thing captured, found my way back home.

When out o’er the pond there arose such a clatter,

I sprang to my feet to see what was the matter.

The grass was still wet with dew of the morn,
And I thought it a shame better boots I’d not worn.

To the edge I ran quickly, wildly looking around,

Past the tops of the trees, for the very loud sound;

When what to my wondering eyes should appear,

But a huge floating boat, boldly labeled, “Goodyear.”

Goodyear blimp passing over our pond

Now on to the next spot, now dash away, bright,
"Happy Skywatch to all, and to all a good night."

Great poem! Now did you take the picture first, or did your write the poem and search the skies for a Goodyear blimp? ;-) I see the trees are getting redder and drier.

This is great! Love how you introduced the photograph! Looks like fall is definitely on its way in your area. Mine too, but first come and see some brilliant blue at The Photologue. :)

Okay, I loved this poem. So cute and creative. Great photo as well. I saw one of those when I lived in Atlanta. I think they are interesting to watch. It doesn't take much to entertain me.

That's the first blimp I've seen on SkyWatch tonight! Nice photo. I just want to say I enjoyed your Hummingbird Journal. I'd never seen a nest and they are just amazing. They are such facinating creatures. I think ours have left for the winter. It's been very very quiet at the feeder today.

Tom--I'm delighted you enjoyed it--feel free to print it for your wall!
You have done so much for so many by bringing us all together to share in this way--I'm glad it made you smile!

I'm sure many recognize the framework of Clement Clarke Moore's 1822 "Twas the Night Before Christmas" verses.
They're the first that popped into my head as I heard the commotion over the pond, and scrambled to see what was floating along up in the sky!
The rhyme's a little tricky--not too many words rhyme with blimp, dirigible or Zeppelin!

Bravo, Nina! The poem is a hoot. You are a woman of many talents.

We had the DirectTV blimp overhead last week, but I wasn't lucky enough to capture it in a photo (I almost said "on film" - how quaint).
